CAMPO DE' FIORI
BEST AREAS

|
Campo de' Fiori is certainly one of the most
characteristic "piazza" in Rome. Its popular soul still survives today, thanks
to the historic market, that every morning makes the street live, and to the
night time crowd, enjoing the many restaurants and vinerias all around it. The
magic atmosphere, took the place of its middle age and terrible use: this is, in
fact, the place where most of the death executions were held through stake and
later guillotine. The statue in the centre, work of arch. Ferrari, is dedicated
to the most famous victim Giordano Bruno, burnt alive here on the 17th of
February 1600. |
The sorroundings of the Piazza, still conserve the many craftsmen
"bottega", which especially during the reinassance, gave the name to
most of the narrow roads characterizing the whole area. Campo de'
Fiori represents today the ideal and innovative mix, between the
typical roman popular scenography, and the touch of the modern
boutiques, that guarantee an exclusive shopping for the most
peculiar tastes.
